From the First Sketch to Convocation: A Journey That Comes Full Circle
A convocation is not just the end of a course. It is the moment when years of learning, struggle, friendships, experimentation and growth finally come together.
Recently, students from NIFT campuses across India gathered at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi, for their convocation ceremony. Among them were many proud alumni of Desizn Circle, who shared photographs from this special day with us.
For us, these pictures meant much more than graduation photographs.
They reminded us of where these journeys began.
Years ago, many of these students came to Desizn Circle with a dream of studying design. At that stage, NIFT was still an aspiration—something they were working towards through sketches, mock tests, creative exercises, portfolio discussions, aptitude preparation and countless hours of practice.
Today, those same students are graduates.
They received degrees across disciplines including Fashion Design, Textile Design, Knitwear Design, Leather Design, Product Design, Fashion Communication, Fashion Management and Master of Design.
The ceremony became even more significant with the presence of the President of India and the Union Minister of Textiles, making it a memorable celebration of design, fashion, textiles and India’s growing creative industries.
We were also incredibly proud to see some of our alumni being recognised with honours such as Best Academic Performance and Best Collection Awards.
But behind every award, every degree and every photograph lies a much longer story.
Four years at a design institution are filled with juries, assignments, workshops, internships, exhibitions, presentations, corrections, sleepless nights and moments of self-doubt. Somewhere through that process, students do much more than learn a discipline—they discover who they are as designers and individuals.
That is perhaps the greatest value of studying at an institution like NIFT.
A prestigious degree opens doors, but the real strength lies in the exposure, mentorship, community, discipline and confidence that students carry forward.
And now, another journey begins.
Some will join leading design organisations. Some will pursue higher education. Some will become entrepreneurs, researchers, independent designers or creative leaders. Their paths may be different, but the foundation they have built will remain with them.
To every Desizn Circle alumnus who stood on that convocation stage: we are deeply proud of how far you have come.
From the first sketch to the final degree, the journey has been extraordinary.
And perhaps the most beautiful part is that many of you still remember where it all began.
The degree is now in your hands. The journey has only just begun.
